science chick asked: What as some realistic ways to manage dog allergies and own a dog, and when should the person just not have a dog?
This has been posted earlier, but there weren’t many responses. Sorry if you are reading this for the second time.
The MayoClinic.com suggests that you
“Keep your pet outside. If your pet can live comfortably outside, you can reduce the amount of allergens in your home.” and
“Bathe your pet frequently. Ask a family member or friend without allergies to bathe your pet on a weekly basis. ” :
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/pet-allergy/DS00859/DSECTION=lifestyle-and-home-remedies
MSN.com also suggests goldendoodles, and for some reason Labs and female dogs. They also cited the site above, so they have similar information

Do you think that is reasonable? And if you disagree, should you let them know? Because I sure wanted to! For feedback, MSN has a link in the very bottom right corner, and the MayoClinic.com contact is in the first line of stuff on the bottom of the page.

I just moved into a 2 bedroom apt and would really like to get a dog. I like big dogs but the weight limit is 35lbs, I would like to get a dog about that size. I need to find a breed that will be ok in an apartment (lots of parks and such near by). Another major issue is that I need to find a dog that doesn’t shed much (pet allergies). Any help would be greatly appreciated : )

He gets the rash whenever he goes outside, so I’m thinking its grass allergies or pollen. It goes away completely in winter and is really bad in fall, and spring. He’s a springer spannel.

Hank Feral asked: My dog had an allergy problem. He was on a special diet that was formulated for his allergies. The name of the maker of the food is Innovative Veterinary Diets better known in the industry as IVD.
Elmo, my pet Jack Russell Terrier, developed kidney failure. He had to be euthanized within two weeks of the onset of the problem. The only food Elmo was ever fed was IVD.
I find it to be very suspicious that he died from kidney failure just as a massive pet food recall was announced. Prior to the onset of kidney failure, he never had any problems with his kidneys. If any of you followers of Answers has had a pet die from kidney failure while eating IVD, please contact the corporate offices of IVD to let them know.
I wrote to them via email four days ago. They haven’t answered my inquiry yet. Please help me to get IVD added to the recall list. I don’t want any more pets to die from their negligence. Please help.
