I have cold induced urticaria. Only very powerful allergy pills can block the allergen. But the pills I need to block the histamine I’m allergic to. How is that I am allergic to a very powerful histamine blocker? Doesn’t that defeat its purpose?

we can be allergic to anything. follow up with your allergist for specific answers. don’t forget that meds aren’t pure -they are made with coloring, chemicals, and binders.

Yes, I know what you mean, just like how some anti-depressants cause suicidal depression.

Anyways I have CIU. I take Zyrtec everyday.

It is extremely unlikely that you are allergic to multiple antihistamines. Probably only the one you are on.

Anyways you just have to try different treatments with the help of your doctor. Zrytec or claritan are over the counter. if you have a severe (and I mean possible life threatening) you definitely need prednisone for about a week or less. Otherwise there are about 5 good prescription treatments. You can also try taking an H1 and H2 blocker together.
