Can allergies suddenly appear after showing no syptoms to the same allergen?

yes you can develope allergies at any time

Depending on the allergen, a long-term exposure can give you a reaction.

Yes. Allergies can appear at any time to any thing. The best way to know for sure if you are allergic is to have an allergy test done.

yes. Exposure over a long time, exposure when your immune system is week, and new exposures can all cause allergies.
I too developed a cat allergie after 25 years of no allergies to cats. It could also be that her cat has more dander or licks himself more often.

Over the years, your body was gradually building up a sensitivity to animal dander, even though you had no overt symptoms at the time. So yes, you can develop a sudden reaction to any substance, whether it be a long or short exposure. That’s the way most allergens affect the body. By the same token, you can develop sudden allergies to foods you have eaten all your life without any problem.

*** I had the same thing. Wasn’t allergic to dogs or cats, and then suddenly I WAS. I grew up w/ cats and dogs, then in my 20’s we got my daughter a cat, and I got hives from it… doctor told me it was a cat allergy, and we had to get rid of the kitten. Then, one day I went over to a friend’s house…she had cats and my eyes swole up, and I stuffed up like crazy. But now…several years later I think I may have built up a tolerance to them… I don’t think I’m allergic to them anymore.

Yes..
If the immune system identifies an “invader,” it send antibodies to defend the body. Over time the antibodies grow in number and with enough exposure, you’ll have an immediate reaction.

Yes they can….as we get older we can develop them as well as out grow them…you should go to your doctor, and have a complete allergy test….

My mom had cats when she was growing up. We use to have a cat also but once she was pregnant with my sister she had become alergic to our cat. But if you have not been pregnant recently your alergies and taste buds change every seven years so you may have had an alteration with what ever detemans what your allergies are.

Yes, I have been able to eat Peanut Butter all through my life until this past Aug(2006) when I suddenly became allergic to Peanuts, so yes allergies can suddenly appear after having been exposed over and over to the same thing it makes you more likely to devlope an allergy to the item in question. I know I have many , many allergies to a ton of things cats, dogs, cows, horses, silk, cottonlinters, Insect Spray. That is NOT the whole list just a sample of all I am allergic to and I also developed Asthma in July (2006) after NOT having it before. So my Asthma is called Allergic Asthma.BTW I am 35 yrs old
