Chris C asked:
okay my father had bad allergies and was allergic to dander. Im 17 and only in the past 2 years have I been allergic. I love dogs. My friends have havanse and maltese, which are both hypo-allergeric, but I still got sick. People said I might be allergic to the saliva. Cats I am heavily allergic to. Fish are cool but right now i really want a pet I can play with and raise. can anyone explain what I am allergic to and if its even possible or healthy for me to consider a dog? Living on allergy medicines can’t be healthy. Please I really want real answers, espically since if I got a puppy I wanted to get the basic training done before school starts in a month.

Most people who are allergic to pets are allergic to the saliva, which dries on the fur and flakes off with the dander. If you are allergic to cats and dogs, you would probably be allergic to rodents as well, but because they are small, I don’t think they would affect you too much. Birds may be a good choice, if you like birds. Also reptiles and amphibians.
You can get special shampoo that helps with allergies from a pet supplies store.
I have heard bisengies don’t cause allergies. Here is a list of dog breeds that are hypoallergenic:
