when i was little, i wasn’t allergic to pets at all, because i had a cat and i always played with my neighbor’s dog. but years later, i’ve started to have allergic reactions to one of my other friend’s pets, because i haven’t been near them for a long time. but if i get used to being around pets again, will the allergies that i developed go away?

I am allergic to most cats and dogs. After about 3 months of allergic misery, I became immune to my own cats. I’m perfectly fine with them now. If I get around someone else’s pets, I’m still allergic.

not for me. i was never allergic to animals either, especially not dogs, but now … i’m very allergic, even to my own dog. i can’t pet him w/o breaking out. can’t play w/ him or hug him, not even fresh after his bath! :(

but i’m allergic to everything now.

severe allergies are far more than external problems. it has to do w/ what’s going on INSIDE the body, and unless your inside is clean of all fungus and yuck, you’re going to continue to have allergies, especially to animals.

I have heard of allergies going away. But it’s not something you can bet on.

Was the other pet wearing a flea collar, by any chance? That can cause some pretty nasty reactions too.

    In any case, good luck!

It really depends from individual to individual. In many cases, they don’t. So you really need to take care. Don’t get a pet yet until you know for sure that you won’t be developing any form of allergy.
