Tammy asked:

Would someone with allergies to cats & gerbils be allergic to Fancy Rats?

    Yes, I would think so.

It would depend on the type of allergic reaction you have to cats and gerbils. Male rats have something called buck grease on their coats and this can trigger can asthma. Rex coated rats tend to have more dandruff which can cause allergies. A lot of people suffer itchy white areas where rats nails or tails have been. Again this is usually caused by males. For some reason I’ve never had any kind of reaction from any of my girls, only the boys.
Females might be the better choice to get, but what you do if you got them and then had to rehome them because of your allergies?
