Dog and Pet Allergies?

My dog gets “severe” allergies this time of the year. She licks, scratches and chews her skin, 24/7 if she could. We are constantly reminding her, to stop it.

She has open wounds, that usually get infected, usually this time of the year.

Any suggestions?
We have taken her to the vet, and she is on Allergy shots and takes predizone (only if an outbreak is severe)

It probably is due to seasonal, pollens, all the triggers of the warmer weather.

I am aware of that, and we are doing everything we possibly can, atleast we think so.

I just wanted to know, if there is anything that will slow down on her licking, scratching, and chewing on herself.

You can give her Benadryl…1 mg per pound. Get the capsule form and put in a hotdog or break it open and mix it with her food…whatever works. I do it for my golden who has horrible allergies too. Also, you might wat to try to some Fish Oil Capsules; administer the same way, and they help a ton too for the scratching and chewing on herself.

Good Luck; I know this time of year can be bear, but those two things WILL work!!

It is concerning the number of dogs getting allergies and hot spots these days.

It can be hard at first to find out what it is causing them.

They can be diet related, due to over vaccinating, from meds, from cleaning products and also grasses/pollens etc.

Here’s a link that might help get you started.

    Good Luck!

Have you taken her to the vet? I wouldn’t give her anything without a vet’s advice.

Ask your vet about Benadryl dose appropriate for its weight. Also, it could be food related. I feed my dog an allergy formula dog food called Natural Balance (duck and potato) Allergy Formula. This food is wheat and grain free and my dog has responded nicely to it.
