On the average, for a human how much does it cost to get an allergy test aside from the doctor’s fee? Are there any cheaper solutions? My boyfriend appears to be allergic to my pet rats BUT even when he has left the house after a shower and clean clothes he still gets really stuffed up and can’t breathe. That may be why we’re thinking it’s not my rats because he’ll leave the house clean and clear and come home stuffed up. He doesn’t have any rashes or watery eyes, he simply gets stuffed up. I’m at a loss.

I worked for an ENT for two years. Typically the tests can run as much as a couple of hundred dollars. Though most insurances cover it, if you make sure ahead of time that you do not need pre-approval.

It’s quite possible that your boyfriend could have a mixture of animal/seasonal/or even food allergies as well. As someone who has suffered from Allergies for the past 6 years I can relate to what he is going through.

If he does not have insurance and you cannot afford the test, look into seeing if he can get a outgoing clinic to perscribe a medication for him. There’s lot’s out there. Zertec, Clariton, and Allegra. I personally think he could benefit from Allegra D. Which has anti-histamines in it and also an decongestent. Another option is getting allergy reducing pillows and sheets. Taking a shower before bedtime helps, and also getting an air purifier might help.

Good luck with finding him some relief.
