What’s the best allergy medicine to take? I’m a pet owner w/ allergies?

Yes I know I probably shouldn’t have a dog, BUT in my defense, I didn’t develop an allergy to dogs until about a 1 1/2 ago and I’ve had my dog for 4yrs already! I started getting a small itchy rash whenever I’d pick my dog up (or any dog for that matter), then it goes away when I wash the area. But that’s not really what bothers me, its my nasal allergies from the dog and house allergens (dust mites). I have the worst symptoms when I wake up with nasal congestion/sore throat. Claritin only works sometimes, and I can’t use nasal sprays (Fluticasone, Nasonex) because I’m allergic to those (go figure!). Also Sudafed works wonders for my nasal congestion/pressure, but I was wondering if I can develop a tolerance to that?? I’m also following all the “allergy rules” i.e., changing bed sheets once a week, replacing air filters, using those special allergy pillow covers, etc. but it doesn’t really make a difference! Help, any suggestions?!?!
P.S. Getting rid of the dog is NOT an option….
