Baking soda for the carpet, to keep the smells down. Sprinkle, let sit and then vacuum. As far as a cleaner, whatever you use around the dog should be fine on the carpet if you dilute it and then go back a second time and rinse.
Vinegar and water for cleaning or ammonia and water for more greasy spots. You can add a spot of dish washing liquid if necessary.

White Vinegar is non allegic and safe to use around people and pets, it is also a wonderful cleaner/degreaser and can be used around the home inside and out, it has been touted as being the best disinfectant in the world it is safe and natural and much less expensive than commercial type cleaners, you can even use in your laundry and use it to wash residues from dogs fur when giving them a bath it helps clean their coats and rid them of any irritations also Good Luck !

Unless the dog is allergic to cleaning products, anything you use will be fine.
