What Are Some Ways To Control My Asthma?

Jennfier Redding asked:
I was born with with asthma. Not very bad now, only mild, was worse as a child. I only have asthma attacks in the middle of the night, maybe 1-2 times a month, over the past month it has increased to once a week. I have a inhaler (Albuterol) which does work. Wondering if I need to get a stronger inhaler? Or any other methods I could try to help control my asthma. What are some other meds that I might try?

i just got out of the hospital for having a super bad asthma attack, so i have good tips for you.
I DEFINITELY reccomend a nebulizer. its very very very helpful. ask your doctor about it. it has helped me so so much over the years and has basically saved my life.

I also had asthma since i was born and i was very ill because they didn’t spot it straight away.I am now 15 and it is better but if you think you should have stronger inhaler the next time you have your asthma check up at the hospital (if you go to the hospital for a check up) tell them tha your aathma is getting worse and they will probably give your a stronger one. If you don’t go to the hospital just go to doctors. They might tive you tablets and you have to take one every night.

Breathing Better: Action Plans Keep Asthma in Check
By Michelle Meadows (staff writer for FDA Consumer)
During the mid-1980s, Sandra Fusco-Walker’s life was filled with sleepless nights, ruined vacations, emergency room visits, and her children’s frequent school absences. Two of her three children–all under age 6 at the time–had asthma.
“I was always worried about when the next bad thing would happen,” says the Kinnelon, N.J., resident. “But that was before we had a plan.”

I have asthma too.,I am also a nurse.Using the nebulizer is a good idea for acute attacks but what you need is a maintenance medicicine that you take every day regardless of having an attack or not.I take Advair twice a day ,it is an inhaler and it was like magic ,it really helps me tremendously. But no one here ,even me as a nurse, can substitute for an M.D. There are a lot of different things you can do to help yourself but please get checked by a doctor.

Hello! First off no one can diagnose you over the internet. You need to schedule an appointment with you Doctor ASAP. Asthma is a very serious disease that you can’t afford to ignore. Anyway! You should be on a maintenance medicine. Advair is usually the top recommendation. I don’t understand why you don’t have one now. You might also need an allergy pill. The season is changing and Respiratory Season is nipping at our heels. Your rescue inhaler doesn’t come any stronger! Albuterol is what it is. I would say you don’t need a nebulizer. A maintenance drug and maybe an allergy pill will work wonders! Also, have you changed anything in your “environment” recently? It could be a new trigger for your asthma. Well good luck and schedule an appt.

Albuterol is the front line drug for treating Asthma. What I would suggest is asking your doctor if you should increase the frequency you use your inhaler. In addition, you might benefit from a controller drug which is another drug you take twice a day to control Asthma over longer durations.
