Does anyone else out there have asthma that the main symptom is coughing?

I cough so much sometimes that I can’t breathe. I don’t have the normal wheezing that you hear about. I was just diagnosed with asthma a few years ago. After having an undiagnosed cough for a year.

I am same the way. It wasn’t til I was 17 that I was finally diagnosed as a dangerous asthmatic. The thing you and I have to be careful of is we don’t wheeze-I almost died when I was 18 from an attack that was not recognized as an attack. I was in the hosptial for a week because they couldn’t get my breathing regulated. My attacks come on with no warning. I can be fine one minute and the next be down coughing and hacking and not breathing. It is a misconception that wheezing earmarks asthma. I have to have an inhaler on me all the time. I am also on advair, singular, and 2 different inhalers for treatment to keep my airways open all the time. My hubby had to take me one night to the er under an attack with no wheezing. I was on the brink of death that night as well. But, thanks to a diligent staff that night they knew what to do and didn’t go by the wheeze factor. You are not alone in this. It is getting more common as well.

*raises hand* I do!
I get to coughing so hard I’ll throw up. Brochial Asthma is what they termed it as.

if ur not on a preventative such as Advair, or Pulmacourt (or another one of the many out there) that could be why u r coughing. I have had asthma since i was hopitalized with it when i was three. When i forget to take my meds, or i’m “to lazy” i get really bads coughing jags, mucas buildup, and i feel horrible. When i get to lazy to take the meds Correctly, i’ll use my fast acting inhaler, which gives me horrible sore throats. Which in turn starts my asthma up. for me its a really nasty cycle, that is cured by taking my meds, that may be ur problem as well. hope this helped

I have the same thing. I was just told my asthma went from stage 1 to stage 4 and have been prescribed Symbicort 160/4.5 to try to control it. However, one of the warnings on the package says not to use it with high blood pressure which I have very badly. All of these meds have the same warning and I don’t know what to do about it. It sucks doesn’t it?
