allergies
Confused asked:

A family member of mine is allergic to short haired dogs. I like a certain breed, but it happends to be short haired. I have been looking at this breed for several years now. I really don’t like the longhaired breeds. I looked and I am pretty stuck on this breed. Can we get rid of these allergies for good?

people are not allergic to either short hair or long haired breeds.. she most likely tested positive to dog dander. all dogs have that… if you get your dog, keep him well groomed, keep your house clean ,, all should be well… i am assuming that your family member assumes they are allergic

One of the techs at my work is allergic to some dogs and most cats, she gets allergy shots every 6 months so she can continue to work in the field. THAT is dedication!!! :)

I had allergies when we adopted our short haired dog, and in the beginning it was a pain but I am now allergy free! The more I exposed myself to the dog the less and less my allergy’s were bothering me. It’s like I am immune to dog hair now.

That might be just me though.

I think that some people, with a more mild allergy can sometimes develop an immunity to it. My sister used to get shots for cat allergies, but also owned cats. She started out monthly, then every other month. Eventually to every 6 months and finally, after a few years, didn’t need the shots any more. Since that time, she no longer has cats and does now show signs of allergies to them. So it can come back when the exposure to it is gone.

The only way to get rid of allergies for good is a vaccine (shot) every 2 weeks for a couple of months then every month until they are gone.. you must take allergy tests every 6 months or so to see if they are gone..

No. Allergies don’t go away. There is an idea of desensitizing dogs to certain things that they are allergic to, but I don’t think it works too well.

You can try allergy shots so that your body can build up an immunity, but with meds, there allergies will always be there, you will just medicate the symptoms. But your family member deserves to live allergy free, so maybe look for a dog that doesn’t have dander like Poodles.
