Brian G asked:

If you have several allergies to food items, or sugar substitues etc and you are getting a blood transfusion. What if the blood you are getting lets say came from someone that uses sugar substitues alot or eats the kind of food you are allergic too. Will that have any affect on your body when they do this procedure?

Blood for transfusions goes through many procedures to remove diseases and to sterilize the blood. If you have any kind of reaction, the staff is there to treat you immediately. Don’t worry, your doctors have it under control.

it IS possible to have a reaction to food proteins in the blood. It’s important to let your doctors know about your allergies. They will possibly administer benadryl in advance, and if your allergy is life threatening, it will help them to be prepared with epinephren.
