My older bully (only 2 years old) has really bad allergies and we have recently had to pay about 1000 dollars for allergy tests and allergy shots. We are worried about the new puppy (3 months old) because of his probs. I am wondering whether it is cost effective to get insurance for her. I looked up the AKC insurance and the complete package was about 55 dollars per month.

it’s like any insurance. If you need it- it’s worth it, but you may never need it. Most cover annual visits, shots ect. If you have a breed prone to problems get it. You’ll be thankful

It may be worth it for your case. Our cat has kidney issues and a mess of other things, he was adopted and we continued his insurance “shelter care” beyond his gift package. Anyways you pay up front with ours and submitt a claim filled out by the doctor. They come back at us every time with some kind of we cant cover this or that it was pre- existing and such a hassle but it would im sure save you money if your dishing out 1000.00 a time. Just make sure you request plan coverage literature to be sent to you before signing up online and read it. They love to throw “pre-existing illness” at you come claim time!!

Depending on the situation I think it is worth it. My neighbor adopted two 4 month old puppies out to 2 different families and before they were one year old they were both diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia. Luckily both families signed up for the pet insurance offered through the rescue because it cut down on the amount of money that they had to pay out of pocket immensely.

I definitely think it’s worth having. I know it might seem like a waste of money if your pet never gets sick or hurt, but if something bad did happen, you would be really glad you had it. Vet bills add up quickly if your is seriously ill or injured.
There are pet insurance plans that start as $10 a month so it is very affordable. The site below has an article about the benefits of pet insurance.

It may be difficult to get pet insurance that will cover your older bully’s allergies. This would likely be considered a “pre-existing condition” that would probably be excluded. It would be worth it to check before buying a policy.
It should be okay to get a policy that will cover the puppy as he has not had the allergies yet, and thus wouldn’t be excluded. It would be worthwhile to check with the insurance company you choose to see if there would be any problems with the coverage.
It’s really worth taking some time and shopping around before you buy a policy. Many companies offer policies that have different types of coverage. The last thing you want is to discover you aren’t covered for something you think you are. As you narrow it down to a couple of companies, I would invest the time in calling each and asking more specific questions and maybe even ask how coverage would work for a specific condition.
